THE DEBATE ON CLIMATE CHANGE 2
The Debate on Climate Change
Climate change refers to the changes in the climatic systems mainly caused by the
significant changes in the concentration of the greenhouse gases which results from Aerosols,
human activities and greenhouse effect. Muigua (2016) asserts that the change in climate is not
an immediate thing, but it is observed after a considerable period. Noteworthy, the issue of
climate change has been on the rise today. As a result, things will never be the same again in the
near future since climate change is associated with direct economic negative impacts,
displacement of people who live near water bodies and increased competition for the scarce
resources. However, despite the issue being noticeable, the agencies responsible for dealing with
climate change have done little to curb this issue of climate change. Several debates focusing on
the issue of climate change have taken place for instance a debate that was held by the United
Nations Security Council in the year 2007 (United Nations, 2007). However, the debates seem
to bear no fruit since little is being done about the issue. While most citizens want the
government to do more to address the issue of climate change through policies, some claim that
it is as a result of human activities hence government should not intervene (Aton, 2017). Others
claim that scientist findings are not accurate since they are always influenced by their desire to
advance in their so-called career development (Funk & Kennedy, 2016). Personally, I strongly
feel that the issue of climate change should not be ignored since it is an issue that is affecting us
today and if measures to deal with it are not properly implemented it will end up affecting us in
the future as well. Hence, I opted to carry out a research on this topic where the paper will
analyze the issue of climate change mostly in the United States and its relationship with the
management of the environment and the sustainable development principle. Also, the paper will
evaluate the efforts proposed to combat the problem of climate change.
