The American dream today
The American dream is basically the fundamental ideals that the government should
uphold to guard and protect its people’s opportunities to pursue their individual idea of
happiness; it can further be stated to be a national philosophy in America that sets the ideals in
which the freedom of individuals includes the basic opportunities for freedom and prosperity.
James Truslow Adams defines the American dream that life should ideally be richer and fuller
for each and every one with the opportunities for each and every one according to their abilities
to achieve and become great.
Throughout the United States history, the definition of happiness has changed along the
years. In the 1920,s it subsequently became the acquisition of material wealth. F. Scott Fitzgerald
in his book categorically warned the people that happiness that is driven by greed is not
fundamentally possible, simply because there is someone else somewhere who always had more
in comparison with another.
Many people are turning to a new more improved definition of the American dream that
better reflects the values and fundamental principles of the country .a more better focus is put on
what really matters in life such as creating a much more meaningful life and contributing to the
society while valuing nature and enjoy quantity of time with both family and friends.
Too many people, successful ly enjoying the American dream means having a lot of financial
prosperity, having a happy family. It is also having an abundance of social, political and
economic freedom. Unfortunately this dream is only achieved by a few people over others. It is
ironical to say that America upholds the fundamental principles of freedom and equality. This is
essentially because ones social status, race and even the gender of a person all determines an
