LAS VEGAS ATTACK 2
The Las Vegas Attack
A gunman, Stephen Paddock, opened fire on a crowd at Las Vegas killing 59 people and
leaving more than 500 people injured (Grinberg, 2017). The security measures that were put in
place by the Mandalay Bay hotel will have to be probed. The gunman had positioned three
cameras at the hotel room to help him note any incoming person. The hotel security should have
noted this operation earlier. The spent cartridges from the scene of the crime will have to be
investigated further to know whether there might have been another shooter other than Paddock,
at the scene.
To clearly understand the motive behind his actions, the police will invite the FBI's
behavioral analysis unit to ascertain the shooter's mental state. Mental disability can lead to
sudden attacks like in the stabbing case of Bronx McDonald's Manager by a mentally unbalanced
man in 2016 (Santora & Pastor, 2016). The investigating team will probe attacker's spending in
the last few days to see whether he might have lost a lot of money while gambling in the casino
prompting such a reaction to the innocent people.
With the increasing instances of homegrown terrorist attacks on the US soil, a group will
be dispatched to investigate any possible connection or communication with an extremist group
inside or outside the United States borders. This might be similar to the San Bernardino incident
in 2015; Tashfeen Malik and Rizwan Farook opened fire during a holiday party leading to the
death of 14 people (Berman, 2016). It is good to assess all possibilities to avert another possible
attack.
