ORGANIZATIONAL CHANGE EFFORT 2
a. Interview
An interview was conducted that focused on a leader who talked about leadership
especially in an organizational change effort. The leader who is a manager at a known store is
known as Michael Smith. Several questions were asked where the leader was able to give
substantial answers to the questions.
John: What have you found to be the reasons or typical drivers for organizational change
efforts?
Smith: The main reason or typical driver has been growth. The business we have at hand started
as a small business with approximately five employees. However, the business continued to
grow and expanded to other areas, and hence the management had to be appointed so that it
would control the growth of the business. Hence, departments were set, and each department
needed a leader. Therefore, the growth of the business was the main typical driver for
organizational change effort.
John: When you think about the earlier organizational change efforts which you are aware of,
what are the serious matters that come to mind?
Smith: When I reflect on some of the past organizational change efforts, the first critical issue
that comes to mind is communication. It is very much important for organizations to ensure that
they communicate with their employees when making changes. In our business, what has
enabled us to have a good organizational change is the fact that we communicate the change to
employees and also answer any questions that they may have towards us. This is one skill that
the management of the business has to ensure smooth organizational change.
John: What do you think are the roles that leaders have in an organizational change effort?
