Environmental justice refers to the fair and appropriate treatment and getting involved in
keeping the environment clean regardless of the race, financial status, culture, religious belief or
color so as to achieve better health. It includes also the use of water with a lot of concern as the
water sources are kept clean (Greenberg, 2014). Dirty water supply and use by a human being
are associated with a lot of dangers when it comes to the health. Use of dirty water can be very
dangerous when it comes to the health condition of the users.
Use of clean water ensures proper and healthy living of people. There are diseases that
are caused and spread through the use of contaminated water. Use of dirty water should not be a
case at all when it comes to drinking water. Health facilities are in most cases limited to
providing their services to a big number when there is a disease outbreak. Waterborne diseases
tend to be spread at a very alarming rate and normally lead to death very fast (Bhattacharya,
2013).
For instance, Legionnaire’s disease outbreak that was witnessed in Genesee County in
Michigan was caused basically by the supply of contaminated water to the public. Both the
government and the McLaren Flint hospital ware blamed for not alerting the public of the
outbreak. The hospital tried to play safe not to warn the public of the outbreak claiming that the
hospital would not receive clients if at all the information was leaked to the public. However, it
led to the death of about nine people in 2014-2015 (Rubenfire, 2016).
