Communication Skills
Language experts assume that there are over seven thousand languages used for
communication. They are the basis of communication among people who understand that
language. The numerous languages make it difficult to understand the means of communicating
that could rise above all of them. However, body language is a nonverbal means of sharing
information that is common in all these languages and across all language barriers. People
communicate through facial expressions, gestures and body language. The action is an effective
communication tool as it indicates the true sentiments of a person. They emphasize what one
does like more than the words uttered. They show the intentions and feelings of a person. They
emphasize the information conveyed through words, and stress the importance of the message.
Actions used during training sessions keep the learners on course with the learning.
Non-verbal communication is a type of language that the body uses to convey a specific
message without using words. People send and receive messages via wordless clues. It includes
the use of visual cues such as distance, body language, and physical environments, voice, and
touch. This communication tool is used to repeat and accent verbal messages. Often, it
complements and may substitute verbal information. It regulates the interactions among people
and flow of information. It provides feedback to the other person. When people's linguistic and
cultural backgrounds disagree, non-verbal communication takes an entirely different role. The
cultural differences can lead to misunderstandings, intercultural conflict, and ambiguity.
Resolving cultural differences, a person should try and be pleasant, be interested and try to learn
something new about the culture and language of the other party (Pogosyan, 2017). Despite the
intercultural conflict, nonverbal language communicates content and share intentions such as
disagreements, emotions, and agreements.
