AMERICAN LAWS 2
The constitution plays a significant role in framing the U.S. government by
fundamentally acting as its source of power. The constitution is also instrumental in the
development of government institutions and forming the basis of individual freedom and
rights, social welfare, political stability, and economic growth (Breslin, 2009). Civics is an
important concept of educating people about their rights and their responsibilities as citizens.
The term also entails our privileges and obligations towards nation building. More
importantly, the four components of government that most impact my daily life include
security, public education, Bill of rights, and health and wellness.
The Bill of rights are normally federal powers that grant people specific rights such as
the freedom of religion, freedom of speech, a right to vote, right to ownership, etc. As
enshrined in the Constitution, the Bill of rights ensures the government does not exercise
excessive power over its people (Wilson, Dilulio & Bose, 2014). The Bill of rights cut across
all levels of government from local to state. Health care and wellness is a component of the
government that facilitate our health well-being given by our right to good healthcare.
Healthcare and wellness range from local to federal powers, with the existence of health
programs in the local and the federal levels (Wilson, Dilulio & Bose, 2014). For instance,
there are both national and local healthcare coverages such as the Medicare and Medicaid,
which seek to make healthcare affordable especially for the vulnerable groups such as the
elderly, people with disabilities, women and children. Additionally, education and security
are both local and federal powers that seek to enhance quality education through training
programs, and security of citizens respectively. There exist education programs in terms of
grants, scholarships that are at local and federal levels, and the budget set aside for education
in both levels of governments (Wilson, Dilulio & Bose, 2014). Further, security operates
under the local and federal government, with the existence of security forces such as the
federal homeland security and local homeland security.
