Planning and organizing a convention of a significantly large size attached with huge

benefits in terms of revenue for the selected community, the process of selection is probably

deemed to be marred with a number of ethical and legal issues. Some of the ethical issues that

should be considered when making the decision of where to locate the convention include

public disclosure and involvement, transparency, integrity, honest and fair judgement that is

not discriminatory. The legal issues that need to be addressed in this case may include the

municipal regulation and licensing, environment regulation, and tax obligation.

However, emphasis on ethical consideration is important in this case, and there are a

number of actions that I would take to ensure the decision of the location of the convention is

made ethically. First, I will emphasize on public disclosure and participation, where the

decision making in regard to choosing our location will be open to the public through

representation of all communities (Kliem, 2011). Secondly, I will ensure the whole process is

transparent and important information in regard to the selection process is within the public

reach. Every member of the involved communities will readily access the information about

our project planning either through their representatives or through individual presence

during the meetings as a way of promoting openness. Thirdly, I will ensure the selection

process is fair and honest by ensuring any sort of discrimination is addressed by opening of

suggestion boxes and complaint desk (Knappa, 2003). I will come up with a team that will

look into any discrimination issues that may be reported and forward the report to the project

executives for appropriate action to be taken. Additionally, I will ensure our selection team is

served with the code of conduct in regard to integrity and professionalism, and actions to be

taken against any member who falls short of the codes. This will ensure all our members

uphold integrity and professionalism by avoiding any sort of ill actions such as bribery that

may jeopardize selection process.
