Individual or Community Consideration
In the management of social services programs, a manager must be able to distinguish
between issues that affect individual at a personal level, and those that are common to the entire
population (U.S Department of Health and Human Services). The criteria that is used in the
determination of such cases is based on prudence, institution-specific regulations, and legal
frameworks, or best practices (Woodside and McClam 59). In this case, I would consider the
critical nature of the issue at hand, if it is critical such as a fractured leg, it would be treated as
individual, and addressed in a treatment plan. Additionally, the septicity of the issue matters. For
example, an individual who suffers from asthma would require a treatment plan unique to them,
especially if such cases are not common in the institution. Finally, the severity, and reach of the
issue is an important consideration. In this case, an issue such as a flu breakout would be
considered macro in nature, and provided for the entire community of people.
