Individual development plan or the professional development plan is a personal
document that helps one progress in their career with time. It makes certain that one attains the
desired abilities to perform his duties and improve his expertise. The plan should be simple,
probably documented in one’s diary. Change is inevitable thus the plan should be flexible, able
to accommodate the change in different factors. It should also be balanced, inclusive of all
aspects of one’s career. Most importantly it should be realistic. One cannot begin a career at the
most top position though it can be achieved with time and continuous professional development.
(Honey P. 2012)
