Example one: My colleague said to me "you have been angry lately and that is the reason
you are unhappy."
What I could have said "I know it is difficult for you to be around me when am
depressed, I have been trying to control my emotions, but it has not been that easy. Although I
understand it is hard for you to deal with it, I wish you could talk about it with me."
Example Two: My Friend said to me "perhaps the job I am doing is unexciting to me and
I end up building in more and more excuses to postpone doing any work given to me by my boss
and am thinking of quitting the job soon."
What could I have said ‘'what? Why? How? Since when did you start feeling that way?
Are you sure you can't do anything about it? Have you considered talking to your boss to review
your job description??"

What I could have said "That appears like a brilliant move to take. It seems like you will
be protecting yourself if at all you feel like you guys won't make it to happily ever after."
On the first example I used Listening Response 3: (i.e., supporting), in the second case I
used Listening Response 2: (i.e., questioning) on the third example I used Listening Response 1:
(i.e., Evaluating).
