There are multiple reasons in why Public Health Organizations utilize and implement a
CQI program. Such program helps establish customer satisfaction, includes a scientific approach,
as well as team approach throughout the organization. Patient satisfaction is a vital component of
the health and patient relationship because of the emphasize of how the patients’ needs are being
met. CQI emphasizes the vital necessities of gaining patients satisfaction through external and
internal measures (Goodstadt, 2014). However, CQI in patient satisfaction goes beyond just the
patient, this also relates to the customer. For instance, funders who donates to the organization,
the community in general, and other program participants. Quality is only achieved when the
needs of customers and patients alike have been met through the various methods and protocols
in which the public health organization has implemented (Goodstadt, 2014).
The scientific approach to CQI is on a very different level than patient satisfaction. The
scientific approach becomes concerned with elements involving the analysis of data, systems
thinking, benchmarking, and variations. When it pertains to the importance of data to CQI, it
helps provide the sound and proper bases for decisions being made throughout the organization
(Goodstadt, 2014). System thinking on the other hand is important regarding CQI is important
because although the analyzing of various or multiple parts are separate, all parts are kept in
mind while doing so with no parts being forgotten that makes up the organization.
Pertaining to the team approach, no organization can be successful and meets goals
without teamwork established. Teamwork establishes and fosters a sense of being a part of the
organization allowing for more motivation among the teams to work hand in hand (NACCHO,
2017). CQI’s premise regarding teams is that teams are much better as opposed to individual
processes when it comes to analyzing the system components and how goals are being met
through ensuring patient and customer satisfaction.
