In the article, “Converting waste toilet paper into electricity”, from the publication

Science Daily, the author discussed the innovative concept of turning toilet paper into electricity.

The scientific journal, Energy Technology, published an article in which chemists described a

process and calculated cost of converting toilet paper into energy. Understanding that toilet paper

is a rich source of carbon and with data like personal energy consumption statistics, researchers

were able to launch their study knowing that because of the low cost of toilet paper, it was

estimated that enough energy could be produced to service over six thousand homes. The project

was also projected to reduce the amount of municipal waste. As a permanent renewable energy

Financially, it is a lucrative project because toilet paper has a negative cost structure since people

have to pay to get rid of it. The project is beginning to receive significant support from major

In my opinion, the article is a quality review of this innovative and important scientific

project. We are using our energy resources at an alarming rate and there is concern that the more

common energy sources will soon be used up. There is an urgent need to find alternate energy

resources. The writer used simple definitions to make the information accessible to readers.

Using abbreviations (wtp) and dividing the article into pieces made it easier to understand. The

article had an optimistic approach to the project and stressed the positive aspects of it. It

mentioned the benefits of providing people with a low-cost energy source, but he did not clarify

some of the negative aspects such how to control the overall cost of the project itself. He did note

that the cost of the project was expected to decrease as the market for the new fuel increases.

There were also no answers as to why the project could not be implemented in some countries.
