CRAAP test 2
1] Explain the CRAAP test - what is it? What do each of the letters stand for? (Briefly explain
what each term means).
CRAAP test is a list of questions which will help you analyze and evaluate the information you
find.
C- currency: means the timeliness of the information. Has the data been updated or revised? Is
the data out of date or current?
R- Relevance: the significance of the information for your needs. Does the information relate to
the topic or is it at an appropriate level?
A - Authority: source of the information. Who is the source of the information, author’s
credentials or author’s qualifications?
A- Accuracy: what is the reliability, truthfulness, and correctness of the content?
P- Purpose: what are the reasons as to why the information exists?
2] Why does it matter whether the sources we use in our papers are good and reliable - or not?
Why can't we just use anything we find on the internet?
Reliability of the sources in papers is important since it strengthens our own voice and argument.
This ensures that the source is credible and relevant as well as enhancing the paper rather than
undermining it. The following are recommendations to approach sources;
1. First you have to know how old the source is.
2. Author biases
3. Online resources. Websites do not necessarily have publishers and therefore one should
consider who is behind the website you find.
