Art from the ancient age has turned out to be one of the elements of culture that uniquely
show heritage. Some artworks have become famous due to their establishments and the message
they communicate to the people. Being famous to the general public do not always imply that
there is a meaningful message that is communicated but can also become famous because it goes
against the beliefs of individuals or a particular group of people. There have been art works that
have been previously received well by some people while others feel their cultural and religious
beliefs are undermined. A good example of such art works includes Andreas Serrano crucifix
image that was received warmly in the art world to an extent it received awards severally but to
Christians particularly from the catholic religious group did not expect it to be awarded as it
contradicted with their belief (Blume and Andres, p. 45). Andreas Serrano crucifix image was at
some point seen as a way of creativity in the world of art considering it was done by a young
man who is trying to come up with innovations. Funding of the crucifix image cannot be referred
to as violating the beliefs of particular individuals. In this piece of work, I agree with the funding
of the image as artwork from the taxpayer's money from an art point of view.
To those who criticized the Andres Serrano Piss Christ, they argued that it was a crucifix
that was in dipped in urine. Also, there are arguments that idolization of the body of Christ is
wrong. In art perspective, Andres was interested in getting to a deeper understanding of how the

issues that revolve around the body of Christ and the whole scenario of Christianity can be
incorporated in Art. There is a message that was communicated in the Crucifix. Think about how
human beings worship God through Jesus Christ; there is a lot that can be derived in the whole
scenario (Casey, p. 19). Understanding of the whole event matters a lot in that case.
During the time of Jesus, there were no cameras or art elements that could be used to
show capture events such as cameras. It is clear that the image that is used to represent the
crucifix of Jesus is also a part of art as it was as a result of the imagination of how the events
took place. After it was incorporated in Catholic Church, it became a sign that is used in religion.
From a different perspective, it is clear that Andres was trying to advance the art work in general.
Dipping the crucifix in a fluid that seemed to be unclean had a deeper meaning of how the
society was at that time.
Piss Christ was developed in 1987. During this time urine was seen as a byproduct from
the human body that cannot be used to illustrate anything either on earth or in heaven. By Andres
using it in art, he may have gone through the sufferings that Jesus Christ went through with His
no sinful nature but was used to save human beings who are filled with all sorts dirt.
Andres should be rewarded to come up with such a heroic meaning of explaining the
nature of the Christ and how unclean urine is. He must have thought of what he could have
compared the nature uncleanliness before arriving at urine (Meyer, p. 39). Also, there is a huge
difference between art and religion which should not be misinterpreted. Unless one critically
focuses on the nature of art and how it communicates its ideas, varied responses to the extent of
rejection may be arrived at. Therefore, the ideological nature of Andres should be embraced in
the art world and get rewarded for motivational purposes if it makes sense.
