TODDLER AND INFANT CHILDCARE 2
In order to meet children’s needs for their development, one must understand their needs first. It
is important to identify the children’s interests which may include their starting points and
ongoing achievements. A good child care facility will have a welcoming and friendly
environment. It should also have a structured schedule which includes reading, meal and
physical activity sessions. The facility will have well established regulations which address
operating hours, strategies for handling emergencies and much more. The strategies for
promoting language, social and behavior development are discussed in this paper.
In promoting language development for toddlers and infants, the child care will have educators
who will help the children to communicate their needs as well as make dual language learners
feel less socially isolated because often, they experience difficult times trying to communicate
their needs. Educators will try to spark conversations out of children, use complex vocabulary
that is, using different words to explain the same thing, and providing them with more
information about objects and events. For example, use gestures to explain words, engaging in
activities that children enjoy such as musical activities, reading books interactively to engage
their participation and reading over and over again to enhance their understanding.
High quality care enhances proper learning and behavior development as well. Educators will
give the children the liberty to make their own decisions and respect them. Also, give them a
chance to solve their problems and provide them with assistance only when they get frustrated.
This is because toddlers and infants learn through trial and error, play and social interaction. Play
helps children generate ideas to solve problems in the real life as in the games. For example, a
child may try to fit a circular object onto a rectangular surface severally without discovering why
they cannot fit. Consequently, they will understand that it can only fit in circular surface.
