INTRODUCTION

Every year, the United States of America becomes host to many immigrants from all over

the world. These immigrants decide to move to the United States of America in pursuit of the

American dream. The American dream in this case refers to a better life and better opportunities

for prosperity such as: better education and well-paying jobs. However, the pursuit for the

American dream comes with various challenges. (Calderon 2015)The immigrants find it hard to

adapt to the environment and also to keep up with the various expectations and set standards.

This majorly affects the learning of students whose families have migrated to the United States

of America. As a result, the government through various stakeholders in the education system

has come up with various strategies on how to help these immigrant students. The strategies are

mostly based on the challenges face by the students whose families have migrated to the United

States.

The need for intervention from the government on coming up with strategies to improve

the learning process of immigrant student is necessitated by the fact that these immigrants form

part of the demographic make-up of the United States. (Center foe American Progress 2014)

Having this in mind, it is important to note that if these students are not able to perform well in

school, they are unable to be competitive in the job market. As a result, they become a liability to

the public and the government because tax payers’ money has to be used to help them and this

brings the economy of the United States of America down. Therefore, the strategies undertaken

by the government and the various schools which accommodate these immigrant students are

quite important in shaping the development of the country. This paper will focus on the various
