Introduction
With the rise and the growth in technology many anticipate that there are critical
issues that will affect policing, either positively or negatively in the near future, and that will
be used to solve critical criminal cases that would have otherwise been difficult to solve on
ordinary basis. Technology is also most likely to leave police and the law enforcement
individuals jobless with its advancement, especially in fields where monitoring can be done at
a central place.
Aspect of Discussion
Enhanced surveillance is an improved form of close and careful watching of a person
or an area mostly by police or army with the expectation that a crime might take place or
because a crime has already taken place. This is with the aim of having intensified security.
This may involve installation of surveillance cameras, cctv and tracking devices fitted in
vehicles or commodities that may involve a lot of risk. The devices are fitted in specific
position that may be anticipated to be areas of crime or in areas with large population so as to
maintain safety and order (Goold, 2003). They are then monitored at a central place where
activities are recorded as they occur. Car trackers are monitored by car owners and they can
locate areas where their vehicles are on their phones.
Predictive policing on the other hand is the use of analytical and mathematical skills
to identify targets in order to prevent crimes through police intervention or solve crime cases
that had occurred before through prediction. This leads to effective development of methods
that will curb crimes and improve investigation strategies (Perry, 2013). This however has
been categorized into four major methods namely: method for predicting crime which
involves the ways to forecast on where and when there is an increased risk of crimes.
