RELIGIOUS ESSAY 2
The Sermon on the Mount as the “Manifesto of the Kingdom of God
Introduction
The Sermon on the Mount is the greatest Manifesto of the Kingdom of God was never
addressed to the multitudes rather was addressed to the disciples of Jesus (Chiang, 2011). The
Sermon on the Mount is not intended to bring an end to wars, suffering or a social gospel. Some
scholars who studied theology argue that the Sermon on the Mount is for the future concerning the
Kingdom Age and the age of grace. In Luke 17:12 Jesus says "the kingdom of God is among you."
In Philippians 3:20 as the Christians bow to the power and authority of the Kings, they join and
become heavenly kingdom citizens. The Sermon on the Mount declares to the Christians and
believers what they become by the working grace of God upon the lives Christians. The
relationship of Christians to the law is no longer necessary since Jesus has already taken the
burdens and people are no longer tied to the laws. The Sermon on the Mount, commonly known
as the Beatitudes place the focus on what the Christians are as opposed to what the Christians do.
The Sermon on the Mount (Beatitudes) outlines seven features which compose the character of the
Christians. The 8th Beatitude deals with the way the world reacts to the seven characteristics of
the Christians (Lioy, 2004). The Christians characteristics are all progressive and interrelated. The
Beatitudes are never natural features, but rather they bring out the difference between the non-
Christians and Christians based on the things they seek and the things of admire.

direct pursuit. The first 3 Beatitudes deal with the response of the Christians to God's revelations
(McKnight, 2013). In Romans 7:9 or Luke 18:11, the foundation that God can build upon is the
first characteristic of the child of God. God can never build his foundation on self-will, Christians’
personal ambitions or even on pride. In Luke 2:34 or Jeremiah 1:10, the process of God is normally
to empty before filling. “Poor in spirit” implies the Christianity willingness to give in to the control
and authority of God, and allow God to govern their lives as Christians. In Genesis 32:10,
Christians need not make demands because of they undeserving or unworthy. The terms "kingdom
