HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT POLICIES 2
Human Resource Management Policies
The fact that organizations differ in their nature of the business, this requires them to
come up with human resource policies and programs that will suit their organizations best with
the aim of helping them achieve their goals as well as recruiting and retaining employees.
However, some policies turn to be effective while other become ineffective and they require to
be changed, but before a change can be made the organizational readiness for change should be
assessed to avoid resistance. To give more insight to HR policies, programs, and procedures, the
HR policies for Wal Mart stores will be assessed on their effectiveness, and the policies that
require change will be highlighted.
Wal Mart is a multinational retailing corporation that is American based and operates a
chain of departmental stores, hypermarkets, and grocery stores. The company is world largest by
revenue and also the largest private employer in the world with a total of approximately 2.3
million workers (Data, 2006). My passion in retail businesses makes me interested in the affairs
of this multinational corporation.
The company has the following HR policies and practices. First aligning their HR
practices with business activities. Secondly, the company has training and development policies
for employees on a regular basis. Thirdly, the company has employees benefits programs which
have two broad categories that are, the Health and well-being befits and financial benefits.
Fourthly, the company has a dressing code policy for all its employees. Lastly, the company has
workforce planning policies which links businesses planning, recruitment and retention and staff
training (Schuler, 1992). These policies have proved to be effective for the company since it can
control a large number of its employees effectively.
