The contemporary society has identified the establishment of a diverse environment as
one of the reasons why organizations perform well regarding productivity. Recent research has
further shown that a diverse workforce is a resource to a company because of the vast and
differing ways of operations each brings to the table. Despite being one of the most sensitive
centers, healthcare organizations, especially in the U.S., have not successfully implemented the
establishment of a diverse workforce (“Why diversity matters in healthcare”). Following the
tremendous success recorded by its use in other organizations (especially corporate), diversity
could be of great significance in growing and developing a culture of operations that promises
better hospital outcomes.
Diversity is very vast. It encompasses human aspects such as gender, race, ethnicity, age,
religion, education, physical ability, and culture. In essence, the creation of a diverse workforce
in healthcare starts from ensuring that professional health schools enroll a body of students that
is representative of the aspects mentioned above. This will eventually see to it that the future
workforce becomes more diverse and stronger. Significantly, changing some of the admission
policies to healthcare schools will make them accessible to all, which is equally compelling. The
putting together of a diverse workforce is very imperative if healthcare disparities are to
eliminated in the U.S (“Why diversity matters in healthcare”).
