GLOBAL COMPANY CULTURE 2
The Oxford dictionary has defined culture as the customs, ideas and social behavior of a
certain group of people in society. This definition contrasts the myth that everyone is the same,
as people; companies also have their own corporate cultures. These organizational cultures
usually dictate how a specific company expects its staff to conduct themselves; these cultures are
the values, beliefs, and practices of a particular company. Before coming up with these cultures,
a company must consider the national culture surrounding a given procedure, which has proved
to be a problem for companies looking to globalize their operations. To overcome this problem
companies should be open to the idea of merging two global company cultures. The first step
towards this is that companies should come up with a new class of culture-specific line
extensions for precise markets that they feel may be a stumbling block to their practices (Bird,
2015).
In their quest for growth and an acquisition takes place it's obvious there will be a
formation of in-group and out-group which will in some way alter the operations of the
company. The company's management should be creative enough to discourage the
homogenization of members of the in-group by the out-group or vice versa without the
consideration of each member's interests. This is possible by the structuring of contact situation
making each member treat the other as an individual and not as a group. The company may also
identify complementarities and build group relations around them, the two groups may have their
differences, but they both will work with the mindset of achieving one similar goal and thus
develop a positive attitude towards each other. (Bird, 2015).
