Multicultural issues are diverse, and they include race, religion, ethnicity, culture, sexual
orientation and disability (Hinrichsen, 2). In my village, Mostly older adults are associated with
evil. This is the case for old lady from a poor background they are always associated with
witchcraft. It does not matter whether they attend the church services infarct some young
families could not let them see their young born in the thought that they will transmit some
misfortune or curses. This was the case with old Maria. In her age, 89 years, she had faced
discrimination in regards to her religion; she was a roman catholic, yet most of the people in the
village saw her as evil. I can recall three years ago we formed a group of youth in the village we
aimed to go helping old persons with chores and food. When it came to this lady, we had to
literary fast for a day before going to her house as it was believed that this could cause the group
some misfortune. She gives the group her story as to why she had stopped attending the churches
as no one had good thoughts about her. She explained that how she wished everybody would see
her good enough to anyone else. She said that she was dying internally following the
discrimination as even the house helps do not last long due to the allegations. She said she had
lived with this for over 20 yrs. How I wish everyone would handle the old with care and love as
they have emotions too.
This belief haunts me even now. Am afraid of the old persons even though the lady
explained to use of the misconception. At some point I feel that my background believes about
the elderly person association with magic and witchcraft affects my relationship with the old
person. This could pose a challenge where am working in human service and public service
leader in the case of encountering an older adult. However following stories from people and the
