JOURNAL 2
The citizens of the United States of America are very proud of their various freedoms that
are spelled by the constitution. These are what the political parties try to emphasize on to be
relevant and win the favor of many voters. An issue of interest that has well drawn the attention
of many people is how the technology has impacted or challenged the rights to privacy of people.
Technology is new and needs to be handled in a very special manner compared to other rights
that have a long history. In fact, it is growing at an alarming rate, and this comes with quite a
number of issues as well. The issue on the policies regarding the internet and rights to privacy is
how they can be changed in this dynamic world (Witcover, 2003). The Republicans used a bill
that was proposing that the service providers such as Facebook, Google, and others have to
obtain the consent of the users to opt-in before selling their information for marketing purposes.
The Democrats policy banned the internet providers from storing, sharing, collecting and

service providers who collect some information about their customers such as a number of calls
and tracking services, can only disclose this information in circumstances required by law or by
the approval of the owner.
Some of these policies do not have the national support especially as at the time that they
were made. For example, the idea that the Republicans suggested to the service providers to have
the consent of the users was highly opposed by the Republicans that were the ruling government
as at that time. It was an idea of Blackburn who was highly opposed by the Democrats
(Witcover, 2003). The policy supported by the third parties on circumstances for the disclosure
