What benefits can be expected by your company if small businesses are
considered in the subcontract solicitation process?
The whole business of government procurement has several regulations and laws that
have to be followed by any business that wants to transact business with the government. By
law, the federal government is required to reserve 23% of all available government contracts
to be awarded to small businesses. The Small Business Administration (SBA) is an agency
that was set up by the government of the United States to help the small business that wants
to do business with the federal government.
There are numerous benefits that are associated with the consideration of small
businesses in government solicitation process. Subcontracting will give small businesses a
chance to be able to grow the size of the business, increase their revenues, gain experience
and expand their capabilities (Ogbari, Ajagbe, Isiavwe, & Ade-Turton, 2015). Since any
business that wants to transact with the government must prove that they are experienced,
subcontracting gives them a chance to create a performance record. Subcontracting also gives
them a chance to advertise themselves and hence remain in business. Business partnerships
that will last for a long time will also be built through subcontracting and hence gaining
competitive advantage. The small business will also become more competitive in the
government contracting marketplace.
To what extent will adding these requirements mean additional costs will be
incurred in administration and reporting of compliance?
There will be additional costs that will be incurred when the consideration is made.
The additional costs will come from money that will be paid when seeking and reporting
