Total Quality Management Concept
As part of my personal experience in quality improvement program, I was involved in ensuring
that the care we give to our patients met all the healthcare standards. The program entailed
assuring our clients of two things quality and continuous improvement of quality over the time
that we will be providing our services. Quality assurance in this context involved meeting all
international standards and regulations and assuring the patient of consistent care through an
established standard. According to Deming improvement is not done by just inspection and that
is why it became a process for me in my workplace.
What led to the more strategic view on TQM is that we needed to be an exception in the market
so that we could gather trust and confidence of our clients. The health industry is one that is built
on trust because people are very cautious when it comes to issues of health and handling of their
bodies. To identify the client needs we have to recognize what links us to them and vice versa.
The other view is that ethics can be very sensitive topic especially when it comes to healthcare
and this requires a strategy for it to be applied efficiently. Our business is also built around
communication with our clients so that we understand their needs which can help us in the
quality improvement process.

The quality initiatives failed because of defects in the quality process. For instance to improve
the quality of care we had to bring a whole new perspective to my fellow workmates who had
been used to doing things the wrong way. The actions led to resistance, and we had to create
detours to the strategy something that interfered with the entire process. Getting all staff involved
in the process was challenging as some differed with the program.
