What Donald Trump is not telling you about his tax overhaul plan: Some will pay more taxes
The above named title is one of the most amazing contemporary news article I have come
across and it discusses President Trump tax overhaul plan. This article mainly concerns the
United States federal government since it is concerned with the taxation system, which is
controlled by the United States federal government. This article is majorly connected with the
legislative arm of the government since President Trump administration is still working on
strategies that will enable them to pass the tax reform bill, which according to Trump will reduce
taxes, but many financial scholars think of it as a trap to lower some taxes while raising many
others. Apart from that, this article is also connected with the executive since it is concerned
about enactment of tax laws, which is also the work of the executive branch of the government.
According to the author of the article, although President Trump is urging people to pass
the new tax reforms bill while claiming that the bill will help to reduce taxes for everyone, the
bill has a hidden agenda the author foresees increase in taxes for some people. Herb reports
that a research has revealed that according to the tax reforms, at least 1 in 5 people earning
between $86,000 and $149,400 will pay more taxes. This issue has confused lawmakers whose
constituents usually pay more to pass the bill without knowing how exactly the law will operate.
Herb states that Trump’s administration and supporters in Congress are working hard to
downplay the fact that some people will definitely pay more until the bill is passed. He argues
that any tax cut is always a tradeoff, where some taxes go up while minimizing others to ensure

there is an offset and an additional revenue collected for the government. According to Robert
Bixby, director of the Concord Coalition, tax bills are always written in a manipulative way, and
eventually do not live up to citizen’s expectations.
According to Maya MacGuineas, who is the head of the Committee for Responsible
Federal Budget, the existing fiscal environment, where the federal government has high debts,
President Trump’s idea of the tax reforms is not true - some people would definitely pay more
taxes while others pay less. From the article, the bottom line of the Trump tax reforms is that it
will benefits the rich in the society, like him, while oppressing the middle class and the poor.
Herb reports that the tax reforms are set such that every social class has lowers and
winners. As an example, those earning between $48,600 to $86,000 will have at least 85%
gaining a tax cut of $940, whereas 13.5% would pay more, averaging at about an excess of
$1,000.
In my opinion, President Trump’s tax reform is not good for the society. This is because
it lacks equality and universality, which are the core virtues enshrined in the constitution created
by the fore fathers of the nation. The inequality would create unequal distribution of wealth, on
grounds and reasons that are yet to be ascertained. When comparing the gain by the 85% of
citizens and the loss of the 13.5% of citizens, it is evident that the losers lose more as compared
to those who gained. In addition, there is 1.5% of citizens who are not covered in the tax reforms
they neither lose nor gain. This is a clear show that the criteria used to determine the loss, gain
or neutrality is not good, as it does not foster equality. As such, the bill should not be passed.
