Feng Mengbo was a contemporary Chinese artist who executed his roles in new media.
The aforementioned was born in the province in 1966 and later graduated from the school of
Central Academy of fine Arts which is situated in Beijing. Feng was born during the time when
the cultural revolution of the Chinese people was at its peak and this had various implications on
his life. The period of the massive revolution began when Mao died and Deng took over the
power of china. During his leadership, he began the economic reforms and also initiated the
aspect of the open policy. Many new cultures and other technologies began all across china from
other western countries. This changes had a great impact on the life of Feng and other people in a
very dramatic way.
In 1993, two years after he completed his studies at the printmaking department of
Beijing’s Central Academy, he was given an invitation to show off his work in the Biennale’s
Aperto. This is an event that was meant for exhibition for all the international emerging artists.
At this given time, majority of the paintings that he was doing were purely based on the
memories of his childhood and also the revolutionary culture that was taking place under the
leadership of Deng. In his development of artistic work, Feng combined the elements of the art
work and other 8-bit video game and created an awesome acrylic-on-canvas work which he
named The Video Endgame Series.

The work that were created by Feng includes the Long March: Restart. This was one of
his master work which included a series of oil paintings which were combined with the Long
March which was an historical march for the Chinese military campaign that was carried out
between 1934 to around 1936 under the leadership of Mao Zedong. The paintings that he did had
a great resemblance to the videogame screen which is calibrated by the digitized Red Army
soldier who throws the can that belongs to the Coca-Cola Company as grenades to the enemies.
He also developed the private album. This was rather the narrative that comprised of the sections
of the sepia-tone family photographs which belonged to the Feng’s family. This album was
inclusive of three generations and numerous other given popular graphic that were in the record
covers, posters and advertisements that were done in the old days. In 1997, Feng developed a
new habit of spending much of his time in developing computer based artwork. This was further
aggravated by the fact that he had completed developing his second CD-ROM art. Another of his
major works was the quake series which was entirely based on the post-apocalyptic game quake.
The film was 32-minute computer generated that was developed by Feng.
