1. Introduction and Background:
The selected Supreme Court Justice is Antonin Gregory Scalia. He was a practicing lawyer in
the 60s, and later on became a civil servant in the 1970s, later getting a promotion as an assistant
attorney general. President Ronald Reagan appointed him to the Supreme Court Justice, and he
served till his unfortunate death eliminated him from office. Justice Scalia had Italian roots. His
father was from an Island in Italy, Sicily. Salvador Eugene (Justice Scalia’s father) came to the
US and was able to study romantic languages. He became a college professor in the University
of Brooklyn. His mother, Catherine Panaro Scalia was a half America-Italian of the first
generation. She was an elementary school educator and only quit her job after giving birth to
Antonin. Scalia was an only child in the family, which was a challenge to him growing up,
because there was too much expectation for him. It was an advantage nevertheless because his
parents gave him sufficient attention and his father was a figure to him through his life. This
made him a principled boy growing up because the father was a conservative Roman Catholic by

Justice Scalia’s Achievements at Harvard Law School
Even with such a successful life, Justice Scalia was known by his school and classmates
as a preservative bookworm. This is because he did little curriculum that can be remembered in
his school life, including his Harvard Law School Life. This can be attributed to his
conservatism, mainly gained from his father’s Catholic conservatism and enhanced in his
