Apple is a socially responsible organization. It supports gender equality and those who
form part of the minority. 32 percent of those employed by Apple are female, 9 percent are from
the black community, and 12 percent are Hispanic. Apple has a workforce of 125000 people. 37
percent of those who were hired in the last 12 months were females. Of the 80000 staff in the
US, 27 percent of those who got hired came from the minority communities that were
underrepresented. The company decided to pay employees equally in 2016 not considering the
gender or race. Furthermore the CEO, Tim Cook is the only CEO of a fortune 500 company who
has openly declared that he is gay. He has been regarded as a champion of diversity within the
workforce (McWilliams, 2000).
Also, Apple has repeatedly received praise for its environmental achievements. These
include reduction of overall power usage by its products by 57 percent, creating of the Mac mini
since this device is considered the world’s most energy-efficient desktop computer. It has
exceeded energy star guidelines. According to Greenpeace’s Clicking Report, Apple is the only
organization that has been presented with a Clean Energy Index of 100 percent. It generates
significant renewable energy that covers 93 percent of the electricity consumed at all its
worldwide facilities. The company has facilities that run on renewable energy in 23 countries.
Also, all their data centers worldwide operate on 100 percent renewable energy (McWilliams,
2000).
For this discussion, I will use the supportive model and the custodial model. The
similarities between them are, in both models, the employers work towards motivating the
employees to achieve greater results. Also, both models allow for employees to contribute
towards making decisions as this makes them feel appreciated. The differences between these
two models are, a custodial model offers economic security as a way of ensuring employee
