Conflict Resolution
In resolving a conflict, the main goal of the parties involved is usually to find a solution
which is satisfactory to both parties and intended to repair relationships. As the CEO of
ExtremeNet, my goal would be to find an amicable solution the both Allen and the company
management to help move forward. On whether Allen should be allowed to keep his job with
ExtremeNet, I believe that he should not be fired but retained in the company. By firing Allen,
the company will be violating his constitutional rights of free speech. The firing would give
Allen a freeway to castigate the company without fears of losing his job which could jeopardize
the position of the company in the business world. The firing would be a source of attention from
other media outlets that might expose the company to further criticism.
According to consequentialist theories of morality, an action is morally right if the
consequences of that action are more favorable than unfavorable (Van Buren III & Greenwood,
2013). Firing Allen would be unfavorable from the company’s position. As the CEO, I believe
Allen should be retained at ExtremeNet. Attempting a lawsuit to force Allen to pull down the
website will also lead to more attention towards the company in a negative way. Rather than file
a lawsuit, it would be better to convince Allen to pull down the website. This can be achieved by
reminding Allen of the social contract which exists between him and the company. Demanding
that Allen pull down the website or filling a lawsuit to compel him to do the same would lead to
further complications and would be in violation of his constitutional rights to a free press.
However, the company management has a responsibility to protect the best interest of the
company.
To respect Allen’s rights and at the same time protect the best interest of ExtremeNet,
dialogue geared towards addressing issues affecting the company and a rather diplomatic way to
