MODELS FOR COMPETITIVE DYNAMICS 2
DYB vs GYB Strategies
These two strategies are used by various firms to give them a competitive advantage as
compared to other firms in the same industry while managing to keep maximum profits coming
into the firm to encourage growth and development. The competitiveness of these firms in the
market within which the industry falls comes from the competitive advantages that the firm
manages to acquire after strategically trading. At the end of achieving the competitive
advantages then the firm is guaranteed some form of stability in the industry. The strategies hold
great differences between them but still end up achieving competitive advantages for the firms in
question. The whole idea behind Destroy Your Business strategy is the fact that a firm takes
advantage of another firm’s weaknesses and grows on them as a way of gaining competitive
advantage in the market or industry. On such a note, this firm will direct its efforts towards
completely ensuring that it has exhausted all the weaknesses of the competing company for the
sake of its growth. It might even solely invest in another company’s weaknesses.
A disadvantage of the Destroy Your Business strategy is that the activities that the firm is
tasked with or focuses on are put on hold or disrupted to solely focus on the gaining on the
weaknesses of the other party. However, it helps competitive companies maneuver their way
around the industry without other firms getting to them, but this is only if they uncover the
weaknesses in good time. Grow Your Business strategy has to do with firms putting into practice
strategies laid out for the sake of the growth and development of the business. It is slightly
connected to the Destroy Your Business strategy through making contact with acquired clients
for growth. The DYB is more of a manipulation strategy while GYB focuses more on the growth
of the business in ways that are acceptable (Hargreaves, Boyle, & Harris, 2014).
