PHARMACOLOGY REXULTI 2
Abstract
Rexulti is a drug that is utilized in the treatment of schizophrenia. The manufacturing
company that develops the drug is known as Otsuka Pharmaceutical Company Ltd. The brand
name of the medication is rexulti. The dosage given to a patient is 0.5 mg to 1 mg in a single day,
and it can go up to 2 mg. The drug has certain side effects that are commonly known to the
public such as belching, running nose, restlessness, headache, heartburn, muscle aches among
others. One major contradiction of the drug is that it increases depression among the patients and
yet it is designed to treat major depressive disorder (MDD). It can be utilized among special
populations such as pediatric, geriatric, obese, pregnant and patients with renal dysfunction and
liver dysfunction; but there are special considerations included when dealing with the unique
population. The mechanism of action of rexulti is not yet known but to understand how the drug
functions and assist patients with schizophrenia and depressive disorder the paper looks at the
mechanisms of action for the atypical antipsychotic drugs. Rexulti belongs to the class of
atypical antipsychotic drugs, and hence it is likely to have a mechanism of action similar to that
of other atypical drugs. Rexulti assists patients deal with the mental illness by blocking the
dopamine receptors in the dopaminergic brain pathways.
