EXCHANGE COMMISSION (SEC)
Securities are financial instruments which have monetary value and can be exchanged;
they are classified either as equity securities such as stocks or debt such as bonds and debentures.
Securities make it possible for one to own an asset without taking possession and they indicate
the underlying value of the asset excellently. Securities are accessible to price, and they are
bought and sold based on demand and supply (Coffee et al., 8).
Securities and Exchange Commission is a United States government agency which is in
charge of securities transactions. Moreover, it oversees activities of financial specialist and
mutual funding trade to prevent fraud. It was created in 1934 by the Congress to regulate the
commerce in stocks, bonds, and other securities. It was designed as a solution to the stock market
crash that happened in 1929.
The mission of SEC was and is to protect investors, ensure efficient markets and facilitate
the formation of capital. The role of these laws was divided into two of which one required
honesty from companies selling securities to the public and the other one was the middlemen of
securities had to treat investors with honesty and reasonably ( Mohammad,418).
