Platform as a service strategy is becoming the new norm of business operations and
processes. Businesses are now using standardized multiplatform and multipurpose systems to run
the day-to-day business operations and processes, which has resulted in many advantages to the
businesses (Raj, 2013). This essay discusses how Dell is using the principles of enterprise
architecture in realizing the implementation of platform as a service paradigm in their operations,
processes and management.
According to Bernard (2012), one of the principles of the enterprise architecture and
platform as a service is integrating Information Technology and business operations. The
platform strategy is used by businesses to help in rationalizing business operations and processes
to ensure that the business achieves its current and long-term goals efficiently using technology.
Enterprise architecture is also concerned with aligning a business strategy, vision and mission
with the IT capabilities and applications to ensure that the business is able to deliver efficient
services, standardized services, and offer reliable services to its clients. These are evident in the
Dell case study where Dell has combined efforts with Oracle to ensure that they have a long-term
view of the required systems, processes and technologies that will be running the day-to-day
activities of the firm. This move is set to help Dell to standardize processes, technologies and
systems, while at the same time ensuring that such processes, systems and technologies are
upgradable and easily integratable with other systems and applications. This is in a bid to ensure
