Antelope Valley Hospital is an acute care center located in Lancaster, California, and it
has 420 beds. The healthcare center was declared one of the 14 trauma centers in Los Angeles in
2010. While specializing in acute care, the organization also operates in the capacity of
infectious disease control center, and it is one of the CDC delegated centers in efforts to control
infectious diseases. Upon speaking with a senior member of the hospital board, various issues
were identified through the interview and a thorough analysis of its risk management program
can now be arrived at. The risk management program of the organization faces challenges of
inefficiencies as well as planning in tackling health risks.
Several challenges were identified by this executive, and they provided an insight into the
risk management program and the challenges the organization faces. The first challenge is the
limited time to accomplish multiple goals. When there is a high alert on any infection, the
organization has to tackle many goals at once. Another challenge that faces the organization is
the infection surveillance inefficiencies. These inefficiencies arise from the limited opportunities
that such organizations that are not nationwide centers get to interact with such initiatives (Alam,
2016). The officer also confirmed that budget constraints pester the organization as healthcare-
associated infections provide another challenge of taking up too much of the money. Further, the
organization faces increased scrutiny by the public regarding how they handle and manage
infection control. Therefore, the pressure from the public presents a challenge for them to
perform.
In the face of those numerous challenges, the organization also implements several
strategies that could be said to be working towards a better control of the infectious diseases. The
most adopted strategy is the hygiene strategy in the workplace. This strategy works to prevent
