Changes in trade, technology and demographics resulting from European exploration in
the new world.
Changes in trade.
European exploration to the new world changed the phase of trade and the course of history.
Their expeditions opened up new worlds for trade to take place and also changed the rules. The
effects of the expeditions included:
The formation of the Triangular Trade Route: - This was a route connecting Europe, Africa and
the Americas. The Europeans transported goods to traders on the west coast of Africa in
exchange for captured Africans who were in turn used as slaves after being transported across
the Atlantic to the west Indies.
The Columbia Exchange: - This was the transfer of plants, animals, disease and food across
different parts of the World. This was intensified by the European exploration that led to the
discovery of new places in the world.
The Rise of Capitalism: - this is a system whereby there is a legal credit on private ownership
and use of owns capital. This being the economic structure of the Europeans was spread in most
parts of Africa and the Americas.
Rise of Mercantilism: - mercantilism being the exchange of goods for profit, increased due to a
greater outreach by the European Explorers resulting to immense economic growth and
expansion of royal power.

Changes in Technology.
The European explorations led to an increase in research on navigation leading to better
magnetic compasses that were more accurate and navigational instruments such as the astrolabe.
More people started learning about proper navigation because more schools were opened.
The Europeans began building stronger, faster sailing ships owing to research on navigation.
More accurate maps were designed because of better theories on the size of the globe and the
shape of continents.
Changes in demographics.
Europeans brought Christianity to North America leading to the increase in population of the
Christians not just in that region but also Africa and cross around the globe. During the
expeditions to north America, native people were alienated, enslaved and killed.
Explorations brought new inhabitants from Europe to the two Americas and Africa causing a
blend of people with different racial origins in the geographical areas. They come with new
knowledge that was foreign to the local therefore teaching the locals a few things, the leading
one being language.
