Think by Aretha Franklin
The song by Aretha is a love song that is written to a lover who seems not to care about the
fiancée but does things his way. It’s a song that is written as a call for the fiancée to think and
change the behaviors. The writer of the song sounds hurt by several instances, but the lover does
not seem to notice. The song starts with a call towards the lover telling him to think. He
describes the situation as letting the mind go and being free. This means that maybe the lover
will see what he is doing to her, and he will probably stop.
Its a reconciliation kind of a song but on one side only. The caller for a new relationship is the
writer of the song. She tells the fiancée 'let's go back.' She wants them to go back to the situation
they were even when they did not know each other. This means that she wants to forget about the
bad things she is getting from the husband. Going back will mean they will look innocent and
maybe start afresh.
The depth of the pain seems to be more when she describes herself as not a psychiatrist. She does
not need to have much knowledge about IQs to know the husband is hurting her. This is a person
who is in pain and needs comfort. However, the partner does not seem to notice the pain and
keeps on doing the wrong. She is calling for freedom since she has been fed up by the

relationship and finds it hard to leave. She is crying to get her freedom since the lover is only
hurting more than he loves her.
She explains how other people love their fiancées there out whereas she is losing her mind out of
pressure. She calls her baby to rethink and realize what he is doing to her whereas she be good to
him in vain. She recognizes that she cannot make alone and that they need each other. ‘you need
me, and I need you.' The writer tries her best to explain to the lover the reasons he should stop
what he is doing and get back to his senses.
The song is a love song that is written to catch the attention of a fiancée who of late has been
mistreating the partner. In the song there is love, and there is sorrow based on the side being
addressed. The tone is sorrowful since the singer is crying while performing the song.
