The Internet-based Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) intervention is a well-recognized
mediation for the treatment of depression. Internet-delivered CBT takes into consideration the
effect of thoughts on emotions as well as the behavior of an adult. With the use of CBT in
isolating particular problems, the psychologist or a therapist guides a client through the
development of strategies essential in addressing those issues. The primary objective is to alter
the thinking patterns and the behaviors of the client (Gratzer & Khalid-Khan, 2016).
Furthermore, Internet-based CBT offers necessary informational skills to the client using
the principles of cognitive behavior therapy. It comprises of a decidedly organized format
consisting of educational lessons and extra resources. Besides, Internet-based CBT is beneficial
due to its high anonymity as well as accessibility. Anonymity ensures that clients share their past
experiences without the fear of being exposed; thus, they derive the maximum benefit from the
use of the intervention. Internet-based CBT offers an accurate and a consistent measurement of
symptoms and diagnosis. Mainly, Internet-based CBT has well-defined goals. In addition, the
intervention has self-contained modules. Therefore, there is minimal therapist intervention
required making it suitable for implementation online (Gratzer & Khalid-Khan, 2016).
Target behaviors addressed by internet-based CBT include use of substance abuse and
increasing stress. These behaviors are the major cause of depression. Therefore, internet-based
CBT works effectively in altering these target behaviors.
