Occupation safety and health act (OSHA)
Its purpose
OSHA helps the employees and the employers to minimize accidents, injuries, illness,
and death in the workplace. The act provides the guidelines for occupational safety and health.
Its main purpose is to ensure that it has fixed and enforced safety and hath standards that cover
all the American workers and businesses.
Standards and Inspections
Fall protection, this is equipment used to protect the workers from injuries in case of
falling. Lockout programs, this is equipment’s that locks and danger sign notice is given. This
applies to the companies that deal with electricity. Respiratory protection, the standards requires
the employers to provide respiratory protection to the workers, especially in marine terminals
(Gooch,497). OSHA carries out continuous inspections to determine if the workplaces honor
their standards. They also expect to find a record of the same in the plant.
Rights and responsibilities according to the act
Employer obliged to ensure that they meet their duty to ensure that the workplace is free
from recognized hazards. Continuously evaluation of the workplace gives warnings to employees
in the case of potential hazards. Keeping clear and valid records about the employees and
exercise honesty of the highest order when the OSHA officials visit the company. The rights
entitled to employers are seeking free guidance and on-site talks. The right to accompany the
compliance officer during the inspection. The right to an assurance of confidentiality in the case
of any related trade secrets (Goetsch,167).
