Globalization
The most interesting idea that I found in chapter six is the fact that globalization has
ideological dimensions coupled with various claims, norms, beliefs and specific narratives which
explains some phenomenon. These ideologies normally enhance the connection between practice
and theory with regards to globalization; it helps in organizing the human activities to be in line
with general policies and codes of conduct that guide globalization. There is also a difference
between globalization which is the increase of interdependence which is evident across the globe
and globalism which is the ideology which promotes the concept of globalization through neo-
liberal thinking and the belief in neo-liberal values. There has been a serious debate amongst
commentators discussing whether globalization is for the good or bad in the society, however,
there has been no agreement reached yet. Neoliberal thinkers have been on the forefront pushing
for globalization despite having different beliefs, values, and norms with regards to
globalization. Currently, the existing ideologies held by neoliberal groups have not succeeded in
dislodging the prevailing neoliberal discussion of globalism and globalization. The chief
advocates of globalization include journalists, corporate managers, intellectual writers,
politicians and bureaucrats; these lobby groups have been able to promote globalization by
sharing ideologies that support globalization such as consumerism and free-market ideologies.
