FOOD SAFETY 2
Food Safety
The access to a healthy diet is a vital need in maintaining the wellness and overall health
of people. Most of the individuals tasked with the role of producing food make efforts to adhere
to the safety standards and reduce the risk of contamination to the final consumers. Food safety
has been described as the process of handling, preparing and storing of food to curb the
foodborne malfunctions (Powell, 2016). Various initiatives should be incepted to maintain food
safety. The attempts of the producers in offering safe food substances influence the supply chain
and the general outsourcing. Food safety is a crucial health and economic aspect. The articles
that will be used in this study are pertinent to the topic since they expound on the topic of food
safety and food borne illnesses.
Drawing illustrations from the World Health Organization, the foodborne malfunctions
have contributed to the killing of most people (Matis et al, 2017). A survey conducted evidenced
that 1.9 million of the children die annually as a result of a foodborne malfunction. Consumption
of unsafe food can result in diarrhea and other serious diseases. Since the human population has
shown a significant increase, food safety has emerged as a global topic. One of the rationales that
contributed to the concern of the problem of food safety as a global issue is the finding of
radioactive substances in some food substances.
The identification of hemolytic-uremic syndrome also triggered the concern of the
unsafe food consumption. After a close analysis, it was found out that the syndrome was as a
result of the vegetable contamination following the invasion by the bacteria. A study that was
conducted concerning the foodborne diseases evidenced that most of the people suffering from
the foodborne malfunction obtained it as a result of food poisoning (Powell, 2016).
