Purpose Statement
The purpose statement of this paper is to show the various ways poverty affects children
within schools and why society should try to ensure that these children have access to the same
education as children from rich families (Farkas, 1990).
Research Question
The research question in this paper is what is poverty in school systems and how does it
affect students in terms of performance (Garmezy, 1993).
Theoretical Background and purpose
Poverty in schools can be blamed for the poor performances in schools that mostly
educate children coming from poor families. The way these families live usually means a student
is never given enough requirements to succeed since the families lack monetary resources to
finance these requirements. In this paper we try to figure out these requirements (Garmezy,
1993).
The reason for examining this topic is to see how student performance is related to
poverty levels in different family backgrounds (Farkas, 1990).
Poverty within education systems can be described as how poverty affects the learning of
children in schools especially those operated by the government. It has been found that children
from poor backgrounds depend on many factors for them to be ready. These factors can be health
status, parenting behavior and technique, quality of neighborhood among others. Many educators
