Abstract
This report presents the application of engineering management for the home electrification system. Engineering
management is a vocation that combines engineering's technological problem-solving skill with management's
organizational, administrative, and planning talents to supervise the operational performance of complex engineering-
driven organizations. Home electrification mainly deals with electrifying the home system. In this report, the home
electrification in detail is employed. All the different materials needed for the home electrification is illustrated in the
report. Different management procedure required for the home electrification process is discussed such as planning,
scheduling as well as risk management process. The main purpose of this report is to briefly discuss about the
engineering management that can be applied in the home electrification process. Different backup plans in the home
electrification are also employed in the system.

Introduction
Technical management assists people in translating their engineering discipline's language into the worlds of business
and industry, resulting in improved cohesiveness with the individuals who make financial and commercial choices
regarding the future of their projects. Engineering management consists of four primary roles. Planning, organizing,
directing, and controlling. Engineering managers coach, mentor, and inspire technical workers based on their training
and experience. The process of using electricity to power a device and, in many situations, the introduction of such
power by switching from a previous power source is referred to as electrification. Electrification is an important part
in today’s life as all the system in the world needs electricity to perform respective tasks. During the home
electrification process, different factors are to be taken care of. The detailed planning of the home in which the
electrification is to be carried out is an important aspect. The total load required for that particular home mainly tells
about the type of electrification system to be employed. The total number of bulbs, switches, etc. need to be identified
prior taking out the actual electrification process to be done. Proper design of the system is needed so that the planned
home electrification is both of good quality as well as economical in all aspects. Organizing the actual home
electrification process requires different resources like human resource, money, equipment, etc., which should be
chose properly for the completion of the project in proper time frame. During the work, after a certain interval of time,
the actual work is to be compared with the planned work and if there is any deviation, proper remedy should be
incorporated in the plan. The controlling is the other important part of the engineering management. Proper risk
analysis and management is to the done during the project. Hence, after cooperating all these different engineering
management tools and techniques, the project on home electrification is completed.
Engineering Management
Engineering management is a specific type of management that is necessary to successfully lead engineering or
technical staff and projects. It can apply to functional management or project management. Engineering managers
coach, mentor, and inspire technical workers based on their training and experience (Shaw, 2002).. Technical
management assists them in translating their engineering discipline's language into the worlds of business and industry,
resulting in improved cohesiveness with the individuals who make financial and commercial choices regarding the
future of their projects.
Electrification is the process of using electricity to power a device and, in many cases, the introduction of such
power by switching from a previous power source. The words "building electrification," "beneficial electrification,"
and "building de-carbonization" all refer to the use of electricity for heating and cooking rather than fossil fuels and it
also helps in the proper study for the children (Daka, 2011). The end objective of such a transition: all-electric

buildings powered by solar, wind, and other zero-carbon energy sources (Kilkis, 2007). Building electrification is an
appealing option now since electric alternatives for fossil-fueled appliances and equipment are currently available. It's
simply a matter of making and paying for the change.
Home electrification mainly deals with connecting the home system to the electricity in order to operate the
different system present in the house itself. It may be for lightening, cooling, heating, etc. For this purpose, the main
work is to bring the electricity from the grid system to the home system. The main grid works in the three-phase
system. But while bringing to the home, the two-phase system is then taken from the three-phase grid system and is
brought for the home electrification purpose.
Planning
Planning is a critical component of systems engineering management (SEM). The success-critical stakeholders are
included in the planning to ensure that important activities are established with the appropriate time in the life cycle
in order to manage acceptable risk levels, fulfill deadlines, and avoid costly omissions (Kjersem & J. Emblemsvåg,
2014). Personal and professional planning are both required. It assists us in achieving project objectives and allows us
to make better use of our time and other resources. Planning entails assessing and researching our goals as well as
how it is intended to be completed. It lowers the hazards associated with home electrification projects. It enables
appropriate coordination of many parts of engineering management and assists in the organization of all available
resources. Planning also helps to identify activities that will efficiently respond to recognized risks that have a positive
or negative impact on at least one project objective (such as cost, scope, performance, time).
Strategic Planning. Strategic planning is the mature version of planning. It is looking further into the future,
evaluating with a keener eye, and accounting for additional unanticipated obstacles and possibilities. The planning is
to be done according to the requirement of the building. The total number of rooms, the total rooms to be illuminated
and the different apparatus to be operated shall be determined. While the process of illumination, the lumens required
in different rooms should be determined. The lumens of the room is differ according to the different purpose of the
room. The light with less or more lumen may cause hamper in the eyes. So, proper calculation of the lumen required
in the particular room and the total number of bulbs in each of the room should be properly determined. Similarly, the
backup plan should be properly identified in the case of any failure in the main grid system for supplying electricity
to the house. So, the solar panel is to be added to the system for the purpose of the backup in case of grid failure. The
extra power generated by the solar panel may be send back to the grid system to gain some benefit by selling electricity.
The inverter is to be added in the system because in case of grid fault the solar cannot generate electricity and send to
the house purpose as well as in the grid. So, inverter or battery should be used which helps in storing charge during
other case and assist during grid failure.
Tactical Planning. Tactical Planning is the process of breaking down the strategic plan into distinctive, short-term
plans. So, the whole home electrification should break down into smaller works to be done so that the work can be
done in effective and efficient manner. The lightening system and socket system should be differently managed. The
total number of bulb in the room and the total number of socket in the room should be properly identified. The solar
panel, battery and the inverter or battery should be properly added to the system. The total project can be divided into
small distinctive division like lightening, heating, solar and backup, etc. so that the work can be divided into small
work so that the work can be handed easily and effectively. The financial aspect in all these distinctive work should
be properly identified before the actual work to be carried out according to the plans and policies.
Operational Planning. The process of mapping strategic goals and objectives to technical goals and objectives is
known as operational planning (OP). They connect the strategic plan to the actions that the organization will carry out
and the resources needed to carry them out. All the plans that are made in the strategic planning and then divided into
distinctive parts in tactical planning then needs an operational planning which relates or maps those plans to meet the
technical goals and objectives (Davis, 2002).
In the case of home electrification, there are many technical factors to be taken care of for the effective and
financially economic system. The wire carrying the current from the grid to the home system should be minimum in
length as more length aids the power loss as well as voltage loss in the system. The total lamps in the rooms should
be properly identified because if the number of lamps in the room is either less or more than the required, it effects
the eyes of the person in the room and aids to more electricity bill as well.
