When to Delegate and When no to
Managers are a fundamental resource in an organization as they help in the day to day
running of an enterprise. They are involved in the management of human resource and to ensure
every employee is located in an efficient department where they will be able to perform their
responsibilities efficiently. The ample work that managers usually have in many instances they
usually delegate to their subordinate to improve their experience and minimize the work load
they often possess (Levi & Schoenwaelder, 2001). The paper discusses delegation as a
management tool.
Delegation in an organization refers to where the top management body of an organization
assigns responsibilities or authorities to the subordinate employees to undertake specific
activities or actions in the firm. Managers usually delegate duties to their subordinate, but the
subordinate cannot delegate responsibilities to the manager or any other staff in the enterprise.
Many managers choose to delegate their responsibilities to the assistant to enable the junior
employees to develop in the new roles assigned to them efficiently (Bell & Bodie, 2012).
Through managers delegating their responsibilities, it allows the subordinate to develop
themselves, and the manager develops mentoring and coaching skills.
Managers choose to delegate to increase efficiency in the company as the work is
transferred to individuals who have skills, which are a better match for the work dispensed.
When managers have a lot of work, they need to undertake they usually delegate it to their
subordinate hence enabling teamwork. Managers in many cases may choose not to delegate to do
the task at hand faster and easier by themselves. Other managers also don't want to delegate
duties as they may be seen dispensable and those who they will delegate the work, they might
