THE BIG FIVE MODEL 1
Q1
Various theories have sought to show the different personality traits that exist among
individuals, (Brown, 2013). The big five model of personality attempts to describe these
personality differences as well as the essential traits which act as building blocks of personality.
The five personality traits include; neuroticism (emotionally unstable), conscientiousness
(thorough and reliable), openness (imaginative and insightful), extraversion (talkative and
assertive), and agreeableness (highly sympathetic and compassionate), (Barrick, 2011). The
personality traits for the following jobs based on the big five model is as follows.
Lawyer: neuroticism-low, conscientiousness-high, openness-high, extraversion-moderate, and
agreeableness-moderate
Psychologist- neuroticism-low, conscientiousness-high, openness-moderate, extraversion-high,
and agreeableness-high.
Entrepreneur- neuroticism-low, conscientiousness-high, openness-high, extraversion-moderate,
and agreeableness-low.
I believe that being an entrepreneur and lawyer would not be fitting for me. This is
because I tend to have high levels of extraversion. I tend to be very talkative and engaging which
beyond a certain point for entrepreneurs and lawyers could be destructive. However, I would
handle and manage to be a psychologist very well. This is particularly because of the high levels
of extraversion as well as agreeableness. I am very sympathetic, compassionate and engaging
and thus I believe that I could handle being a psychologist.
