What do you think the graph does well? How would you improve it?

The data visualization representation indicates how different groups spend their day.

Particularly, it is easy to look at a graph in a superficial way and enjoy the visuals. There is a

high level of interactivity in the graph. There is color consistency. Different people spend their

day for education, work, household activities, travelling, TV and movies, sports, socializing, and

sleeping. Each of the activities analyzed has its own color which is consistent throughout the

graph. It must be noted that the use of colors in data visualization is not for aesthetic choices,

rather, it is essential to convey accurate information. When colors are properly selected like

shown in the graph, they convey data in an accurate way and reflect the relationships between

data values. In the graph, the different colors allows for the multiple data sets to be layered

together. The colors have helped in distinguishing different categories of data. It is evident that

the color utilized shows the meaning of the values. Thus, the color scheme utilized works.

Besides, even with the different categories of data, the graph is simple. One can digest

information easily. On the graph, users can control what they see on the visualization depending

on the time they want to make an assessment. This is a great advantage and saves time if the user

is only interested in a specific time frame.

On the other hand, in order to improve the graph, it is important to have a correct title.

Whilst the graph indicates that how different groups spend their day, it is only one group that is

presented; one of ages 15 to 24. Therefore, the title is misleading.

Therefore, it is clear that data visualizations that are compelling are essential more than

just looking attractive. They display data that indicate meaning and enhance understanding.

Consequently, when data visualizations are more effective, it is easier to comprehend the

information presented (Telea, 2014).
