IMPROVING NETWORK SECURITY 2
Boosting Network Security in Organizations
CURRENT GAPS AND ANTICIPATED CHANGES
When companies combine, a number of gaps may arise in relation to various issues
facing information sharing. However, this may begin at the organizational structure where the
requirements, as well as the policies of one company, may collide or not elaborately integrate
with the other company’s and thus create a gap that may interfere with the security of the
resultant company. These policies may require being changed so as to create uniformity and
ensure that they follow the current standards in terms of security and accountability. When a
company is created after a combination of two others, there is often a need to share information
between the two. As reported by US Department of Health and Human Services (2017), the
network that the companies create or utilize to share information should be elaborately analyzed
for security flaws so as to ensure that it meets the Health Insurance Portability and
Accountability Act (HIPAA) thresholds and guidelines. If one company was making use of
weaker connections such as dial-up, this may require being changed so as to ensure that a more
secure connection is established on one node of the premises. In fact, Cocuranu et al. (2013)
propose dedicated networks in order to boost HIPAA adherence. While joining these
connections, the companies should identify and address any reasonably anticipated threats such
as malicious access through escalating the security. Another change that may be required is the
upgrading of the network servers so as to accommodate the anticipated increase in traffic as data
is exchanged across the wide new company.
