Introduction
For the longest time, African Americans have battled against the longstanding violence
resulting from white supremacy. These include police brutality resulting from racial disparity,
racial killings and violence, and criminal injustices arising from the set justice systems. These
issues have come a long way from the historical period of slavery, Black Code and Jim Crow
laws, and lynching, among others. Notably, these issues have been propagated in the watch of
established justice systems reinforcing white supremacy while denying African Americans
justice (Rigby and Seguin, 2021). The male population among the African American population
has been tagged as the most affected group by racial violence, evident with the recent killing of
George Floyd.
However, there are various proposed changes to the existing systems that deal with
policing and alteration of justice systems to counter the intense levels of violence and injustice.
These include implicit bias training to minimize racial violence, biased policing, and systems
change to counter structural and institutional racism (Rigby and Seguin, 2021). Mainly, that can
be established by initiating policies and providing resources to every sector to address racism.
Nevertheless, the proposed changes have their fair share of challenges that may hinder its
progress and benefit for propelling the recovery process from African American violence.
Challenges of proposed changes
With the continued application of excessive force among the minorities, that is, the
African American people since 2014, the essence of implicit bias training among the police
forces remains an issue of concern. A report released by researchers from the John F. Finn
institute revealed diverse and inconclusive outcomes on the effectiveness of the training and
