Introduction
With graduation date drawing near, my focus shifts from school projects, assignments,
and exams to a career-focused life, personal establishment and family life. Definitely, I anticipate
my next phases of my professional career and life to come with numerous trials, however I will
prevail over them owing to my desire to become successful and the factors of success instilled in
me right from my young age, to this day. I am fully confident that my experience in school, both
in academic and extracurricular activities, work and internship experience, have led to self-
management and interpersonal skills; but still I have to improve on several areas. Going forward,
my personal goals will continue to diversify and develop, although my ultimate dreams are yet to
be accomplished.
Reflecting on school life: Self as practicing strategist
In accordance with Lee et al. (2010), self-evaluation is among the most important stages
of self-regulation which involves giving oneself metacognitive feedback. There is the need for
self-evaluation to facilitate rational standards since the person would underestimate or
overestimate oneself. Zimmerman (2002) mentions that self-emulation involves the following
four phases: to observe, emulate, self-control, as well as self-regulation. When I first joined
university, I felt lost with the introduction to subjects that seemed clueless to me, especially
considering my Asian background and trying to cope with Australian curriculum. Venturing into
the school of business and management was something that initially took for granted but talking
to career guidance team at the University of Queensland gave me an easy approach towards
embracing a fulfilling professional career, despite being skeptical about my learning experience
